Skillet Cornbread

Golden skillet cornbread fresh out of a cast iron pan

Ingredients

  • 1¼ cupcorn meal
  • 1 cupall-purpose flour
  • ½ cupsugar
  • 1 tbspbaking powder
  • ½ tspsalt
  • ¼ cupoil (or melted butter)
  • 1 cupmilk
  • 1egg

Steps

    Preheat the oven to 400°F with a greased cast iron pan inside.

    Mix the dry ingredients and make a well in the middle.

    Add the wet ingredients and mix until lumpy.

  4. 4

    Put a pad of butter in the hot pan and let it melt.

  5. 5

    Pour the mix into the hot pan, then spread and smooth the top.

    Bake 20 to 25 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

    Remove the cornbread upside down onto a plate.
